Donating Funds
The Red Cross relies on donations. In every single case, it is the mission of the American Red Cross to be there and help those in need—whether disaster strikes thousands of people at once...or one family in the middle of the night.
The American Red Cross responds to fires, floods and other emergencies in your own community - all disaster assistance is free, made possible by donations, and everyone who needs it gets it.
Your tax-deductible financial contribution can be made in a number of ways:
1. Donations by Mail Please make checks payable to "American Red Cross" and indicate your designation in the check's memo line.

5. Hold a Fundraiser for the Red Cross
If you or your group would like to fundraise for the Red Cross, you will first need to get the guidelines on how to conduct a fundraiser and sign a third-party fundraising agreement. Please do this before you start conducting any fundraising activity.
6. Charitable Gift Annuities A charitable gift annuity pays you guaranteed income for life at an attractive rate, offers tax savings, and frees you from investment worries and responsibilities. Establishing a gift annuity is simple. If you are 55 or older and you make a gift of money or securities, the American Red Cross will pay you an income, in the form of an annuity for life.

7. Donation of clothes, food, or other items.
The American Red Cross does not usually accept or solicit small, individual donations of items for emergency relief purposes. Small items such as collections of food, used clothing, medical supplies and shoes often must be cleaned, sorted, and repackaged which impedes the valuable resources of money, time, and personnel that are needed for other aspects of our relief operation. The best way to help a disaster victim is through a financial donation to the American Red Cross. Financial contributions allow the Red Cross to purchase exactly what is needed for the disaster relief operation, close to the incident, avoiding high transportation costs and logistical difficulties, meanwhile stimulating the local economy. The Red Cross does accept sizable, bulk donations only when they meet the service delivery needs of a particular relief operation. These donations typically come from companies that can package the items in bulk, palletize them, and ship them directly to the disaster site. Other in-kind gifts that are appropriate to our mission may be considered by your local chapter.
